The drive was fairly uneventful. Driving the freeways in France isn't much different from driving the freeways in Switzerland once you figure out a few minor differences in signage. Plus, the speed limit is 130 km/h rather than 120, so you can zip along a little faster. (There are plenty of cameras to enforce that speed limit, so you don't speed.) We didn't actually have to drive in Paris, which would be a completely different experience from driving the freeways. I have no desire to drive in Paris, ever. It's nuts there.
In no particular order, here are some of the experiences we had:
The kids thought that "Pirates of the Caribbean" was so great that we had to do it twice. The adults didn't quite get it, but the trip wasn't about us.
Tanner and I went on Space Mountain 2. It's a much crazier ride than the Space Mountain I rode at Disneyland in California 25 or so years ago, and it was a little too much for him. He was pretty quiet for most of the ride. After we turned upside-down for the second time but before the ride ended, he calmly said, "Dad, I don't want to ride this one again." I suspect that as time goes on, though, the glorious tale of the intensity of the ride will grow and the memory of the misgivings will fade, just like every good fish story.
We spent a day touring Paris. That was pretty cool. One of the pictures with Tanner and Lindsey and the Eiffel Tower in the background didn't turn out as well as we would have liked, but I'll still include it. That picture was taken near the entrance to the Louvre. We didn't actually go inside the Louvre, since we only had a little while and we had a four-year-old in tow, but it would be nice to go back sometime.
We saw Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, and all kinds of really cool architecture. It was all very interesting. They just don't have that many 500-year-old buildings in Lakeville. The Eiffel Tower is really big. We went as high as the first floor. We'll have to go back sometime and go to the top.
Stace managed to bring one ride at Disneyland to a halt. She waited in line with the rest of us for the spinning teacup ride or something like that, but she didn't actually want to ride them. So, while the three of us got into our teacup, Stace headed for the exit, but she didn't make it in time. The ride ran for a few seconds and then stopped. As I was wondering what the heck was going on, I saw my lovely wife being pointed to the exit by the diligent Disney employees. Once she was safely away, we were able to continue our ride. Life is never boring.
Overall, it was a fun trip, but I'm okay if I don't make it to Disneyland for a while again.
Next stop in Europe--?????
