Do you ever do something just because you're too stupid to do otherwise? I do. (You probably figured that wasn't a rhetorical question.)
Just now, I was eating one of those rare Swiss delicacies, Ramen noodles. (Don't ask.) I was eating them out of a very shallow bowl. I was eating the noodles with a fork. After I finished the noodles, I had a dilemma: I didn't want the broth to go to waste, but I was also too lazy to get up from my chair to go get a spoon. Since the kids weren't around to see my bad manners, my only logical choice was to tip the bowl into my mouth and to drink the broth, right? As I contemplated committing this breach of social etiquette, I looked at the bowl and thought to myself, "That bowl is so shallow that if I try to tip it to drink the broth, I'm going to spill the broth all over myself. Hmmmm." Of course, my next move was to do just that. Sure enough, predictably, I ended up with Ramen broth all over myself.
Why do we do dumb things?
