Jenny asked a very perceptive question in response to my last post: After Tanner slept until 3 p.m. upon returning to Switzerland, did he go to sleep the following night? The answer is, no, he didn't, and therefore, neither did I.
We tried putting him down (by "putting him down," I mean putting him to bed, not euthanizing him or insulting him) at around 10:00, I think. Every half hour or so after that, he arose to report that he was still awake. We tried everything: books on tape, music, letting him read with the flashlight, everything. Finally, at 4 a.m., I told him to lie on his bed for an hour, and to come and get me if he was still awake. Sure enough, at 5 a.m., he reported that he was still awake. I decided that he was up for the day. He made it through the entire next day without a nap but fell soundly asleep that night. We didn't let him sleep until 3 p.m. again, and we never will.
In other news, Tanner and I spent seven hours on nine different trains yesterday getting to and from Gstaad, a resort town that's almost in the French part of Switzerland but is still German. We went to see a recital for Chad Hoopes, who at age 15 is on his way to becoming one of the world's top violinists. Chad was Tanner's temporary big brother a few years ago when we went to Wichita to adopt Lindsey. Tanner stayed with Chad and family for a few days. It was fun to see the recital and to see Chad and his mom. Tanner's a pretty good traveler. We could have driven and shaved about an hour from our travel time each way, but the train is more relaxing.
School starts Tuesday. Stace is extremely upset at the prospect of having the kids gone for eight hours each day. I hope she can successfully make the adjustment.

I suggest buying Stacie lots of chocolate to help her cope with the children being gone so long!
I can't believe he didn't sleep at all that night. Guess you learned your lesson with that one!!
So cool that you got to see Chad on your continent!
I knew it!!! Been there done that:)
