To the mountains

Derek and Mary roll their eyes now whenever I say this, but I really am going to make it to Lugano one of these days. I had good intentions of going yesterday, but again, I looked at the forecast. Ninety degrees in Lugano, 65 degrees up on Mt. Titlis (yes, it's an unfortunate name for English speakers, but it's completely innocuous in German), so the mountain won. I went up to 10,000 feet and played in the snow.

I'll have to take the kids there in the fall. There are glaciers all over the place. You can actually tube or sled in the snow up there, and there's an ice cave carved out under the glacier. It was really touristy, which always kind of ruins the experience (even though I'm still sort of a tourist myself), but the kids would love it. There will be pictures when my camera and laptop are reunited in two and a half weeks.

On a completely unrelated note, it's kind of fun to watch the Tour de France in real time over here. I don't follow it as much as I used to, but I still pay attention. And I've noticed that the French roads don't look nearly as weird to me now. Roads all over Europe are pretty similar. The markings, signs, roundabouts, and other features of the French roads are the same things I see driving around Switzerland.

Can I join Derek and Mary in rolling my eyes about you going to Lugano? You must go.
